Blogger's Quilt Festival~
It is Blogger's Quilt Festival time! Check out Amy's post, and then visit blogs to be inspired! There are so many great quilts and wonderful stories.
I had a very hard time deciding which of my quilts to show you~ I love all of them! :-) Usually I say that the one I just finished is my favorite, but today I'm going to share an older favorite.
Today I was refolding some of the quilts in my cupboard and this one caught my eye. It is my DD's quilt and has a fun history. When she was in 3rd grade, my Dad found an old clunker sewing machine for her to sew with. She was at the age where she wanted to sew with me. Our neighbor had a yard sale and had one of those pre-cut poly/cotton little kits of pink gingham 9-patch blocks. DD talked her into accepting her allowance for the kit. (that's my girl! LOL) :-) and came skipping home with 'her quilt kit'. That summer she learned to piece and I let her use the iron to press her blocks. She maybe finished 6. The next summer, she pulled it out and made a few more. She did this off again/on again for a few years. When she was a freshman in HS she was horrified at her initial blocks. :-) (in the space of that time, we had moved twice, and she now had a different sewing machine as her clunker was broken in one of the moves). She set to work ripping out the most offensive blocks and sewing until she had 24 blocks that she liked. She used my little stash of gingham fabrics to make her sashings. I had a new embroidery machine, so before she would leave for school in the morning, she would choose thread colors and mark where she wanted a butterfly embroidered. She would fly into the house after school to check out her top. :-) She added all the borders and we sent it off to a longarm quilter who quilted a butterfly design. All she needed to do was the binding when we picked it up. We were visiting my parents, and my Mom would sew down a length of binding when she was outside with her cousins, and at night she would work on it herself~ she marveled at how fast she was getting her binding on! She never realized Grandma helped her so much. LOL She used this quilt on her bed for a few years, and now she is 'saving' it. It is loaded with fun memories. :-) I'm #285 at the Festival!
Thanks for stopping by and visiting!
Enjoy the festival!

What's Up Doc?
When I saw the Schnibbles pattern for May ~Doc~ I knew it would be perfect for my collection of striped shirt fabrics. What I didn't know was how hooked I would get! :-o I just couldn't stop at nine blocks! I kept cutting, and sewing... and.... viola!
I have a quilt top for one of my DS's! :-) It was really hard to get good photo's~ the stripes look so much nicer in person. I tried taking a photo outside too~
Now I need to get back to some of my other projects~ I seem to be behind in all of them! LOL
Hope you are having a great day!
Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!

Shirt Play~
Yes, you read that right! I have been playing in recycled men's shirts! LOL I have had a small collection going for some time, always dreaming of the day I could make some manly quilts for my DS's. My friend, Bonnie helped my little collection grow quite a bit when she shared sleeves from her collection. ~thanks Bonnie! :-) And I've been doing a bit of shopping. Finally I feel like I have a big enough variety to play! :-) Bonnie and I are going to do a block exchange from Bonnie Hunter's second book. So I decided I'd made plenty of HST's and it was time to try a few blocks! :-)
I am loving how all the plaids and strips are playing together! :-)
And since I had my shirts on my mind, I decided this month's Schnibble project~ Doc~ would also be neat out of them. ;-)
Hope you are enjoying a little play time too! :-)
Until next time~

Where Did the Week Go?
Seriously? Wasn't just yesterday Monday?! It seems the more organized I try to be, the more I lose things. :-) So I gave up organizing this week to sew. I can't show you most of what I worked on, but I can show you my BOM blocks. My friend Karen and I are leading the BOM on the HGTV quilter's forum. It has been fun, frustrating (when our computer crashed), and fun~ to see everyone's color combo's and what they do with our blocks. :-) I'm doing mine in my Civil War scraps.
There are my blocks for January through May. Next up I need to work on June's block to stay ahead of the girls! LOL ;-)
Have a great weekend!
Until next time~

Catching Up~
This month's Schnibble project was Summer Day. With a name like that, I couldn't help but make it summery! ;-) I used a bunch of bright and cheery scraps that I won earlier in the year from Lurline. :-) They were perfect!~ thank you again Lurline!!
I also managed to get last month's Bibelot quilted and ready to sew the binding down~ this is going to be a pillow for hubby~ 'T' is for 'trouble'. LOL ;-)
Watch Sherri and Sinta's blogs tomorrow for a May Day parade of Summer Days!! :-)
And~ I got busy this morning and finished up one of my Christmas Through the Year projects! :-)
These are cradle quilts. They will be mailed off this month to an organization that makes cradles for little girls at Christmas time. The red one is all finished and ready to go. The other one is a Ticker Tape quilt and it just needs a bit more quilting and a binding. Both will be on their way by the end of the month. Wouldn't it be fun to be a little fly on the wall when some little girl finds a doll, cradle and little quilt under her tree? :-)
That's all for now~ I need to get back to Spring cleaning! ;-)
Until next time~ happy stitching!
Oh! I am drawing the winner in my giveaway tomorrow~ be sure to leave a comment on that post!! :-)
