Answers...

Thank you all for visiting and commenting! :-)) Unfortunately my 'sewing, sewing, sewing' came to a screeching 'halt, halt, halt'!! :-o as I am battling with a nasty cold, sore throat. :-( No fun at all!

Bonnie~ I answered by email, but I'll mention it here too... my rotating mat is the 12 inch size. I like it~ easy to store and good for trimming up small blocks... :-)

Wendy~ You didn't leave an email for me to answer your question, so I hope you find this. :-) I modified the pattern for the door dresses that I found HERE It was a pretty fun and easy thing to do.

Debs~~ I came visiting your blog hoping to see your Jack's Chain :-)

And Brenda! :-o My quilting abilities could never do justice to those open spaces in the chain!! LOL

Since I'm not sewing, I'll leave y'all with this photo of all my Hen & Chicks blocks ready for swapping~~

Have a happy day and don't get sick~ it is no fun at all! :-(

Sewing, Sewing, Sewing~~

Or maybe that title should be 'Playing, playing, playing!' :-)

I'm having a 'sew' day!! As opposed to a snow day! ;-) It did snow today, but not enough to cause any problems. :-)

I cannot decide what to do with all my mini 9-patches. Today I tried a Jack's Chain block from QuiltersCache~~ oy! that is a lot of set-in seams!! :-o It would be a much better hand-piecing project than a machine project, but I'm not a hand-piecer! ;-) I think I'll look at more patterns... LOL

Next I played with my string blocks. For this round I asked for 30's prints with a red print center. One set the center doesn't stand out very well, but all the rest do. :-) I've not received all of them yet, and my table is already covered! I'm not sure how or what to do with these either. Originally, I was thinking about making things for my red kitchen :-) ...but now I'm not so sure I want to make a table covering or placemats from them! :-o Oh, what to do, what to do... :-)) Kind of a fun dilemma! LOL

Until next time~~

My Mini's Arrived~~

All last year I participated in a swap hosted by Bingo-Bonnie for 3 inch finished 9 patch blocks. The last of the blocks arrived home today! :-) I made way more than I probably needed~ this last group consisted of 50 purple blocks and 30 yellow. In the beginning I made 60 of each color~ they were just too cute to stop! :-) Now I'm thinking, realistically, how many can I use in one quilt?! If I made 9-patch blocks with them I would use 5/block x 12 blocks = 60 mini blocks! Oh my! I have way more than that! LOL I guess I will play in EQ for a while and see what I can come up with! :-)) But aren't they cute?~~ :-))
I think you can click on them for a bit bigger view. ;-)
Until next time~

Oh Happy Day!!

:-)) I finished my string blocks!! Whoohoo! I know you are getting tired hearing about them because I am getting tired doing them! LOL This time I made 80 blocks for 16 participants... and I think I need a rest from them for a bit now. ;-)) Of course, once my blocks start rolling in, I may 'fall in love' all over again. LOL :-) They are easy to do and the different color combo's were fun to put together, but I'm happy to be mailing them off. ;-) See my rotating cutting matt there? It was perfect for trimming up the blocks! :-)

Next up is to finish my red/white blocks and then I'm going to get caught up on a few BOM's. ;-) There is always something to do!! ;-)

While I was looking for some of the string colors, I came across this mini quilt I made a few years ago. It is 6 3/4 inches square. The center part is 4 inches, and has 64 HST's that are 1/2 inch each... what was I thinking??!! :-o LOL It was not paper-pieced! Yikes. :-) I doubt very much I would attempt anything like it now... ;-)

Until next time~

Still Working On Strings Here~

..but my list is getting shorter! :-) I did the blues and blue/brown sets over the weekend. Today I worked on the black, white & reds. Now all that I have left is the swappers who requested 30's strings. I have a bucket of 30's, so I'm all set! :-))

Until next time~~

Postcards!~

I have received a few cuties in the mail to celebrate Penguin Awareness Day (January 20th) and National Pie Day (January 23rd). :-)

I finished my last ones to go out and forgot to take the photo until after I had them all tucked/taped inside the little envelope~ which I hope will help keep them cleaner in the mail! Who knew mailing a fabric postcard could get so dirty? :-o

Next week I will get back to some serious sewing of string blocks!

Have a happy weekend! And until next time~

My Scalloped Edge Quilt...

We had a swap for 30's blocks on the hgtv message boards a few years ago. I made enough blocks to swap to get 3 quilts. :-) Yes, I love 30's fabrics! :-) This one I assembled and sent to my Mom to have her group handquilt for me~ I did this approx 2 years ago. :-o When I got it back, I loved the quilting, but was paralyzed by fear that I'd mess up the scalloped binding. So I procrastinated, and procrastinated some more... sigh. After finishing the big quilt in my other post, I decided the time was now! So I cut yards and yards of bias binding~ I wasn't following any pattern so I just guessed at how much to cut. I way over-guessed! ;-) Usually I don't cut enough binding, this time I have almost 2 yards left! :-o (Guess I can make a mini quilt~the binding is ready! LOL) After a week of hand-stitching down binding, I put the last stitches in last night. Yay! So today it went for it's soak in the bathtub, rinse in the washing machine, and a little fluffing in the dryer at the lowest settings. I think it came out great! Whoohoo! Now I can actually change quilts on my bed! ;-) Oh~ you may have noticed, I like green too. ;-)

I've been kind of headache/shoulder & neck aching the last couple of days, so I haven't been feeling like working on string blocks... hopefully I'll get back on track soon!

Hopefully the photo's will enlarge if you click on them... sometimes it works, and sometimes not. I don't know why!

Thank you for stopping by and for all your comments on my other quilts! I've shared your comments with my Mom too. ;-)

Until next time~

January Quiltathon Weekend~

And I'm sewing!! :-) This mess can only mean one thing... if you guessed string bocks, you are right!! Actually, there is a much bigger mess that I didn't photograph. LOL We swap the string blocks on the HGTV message boards. Everyone chose their own colors for the strings and the center. Then we make the blocks and mail them to each other. I have received about half of the blocks from this swap~ I'll post a photo of them soon. ;-) Today I worked on blocks for those swappers who chose brights, florals and 30's. I have lots more 30's blocks to make! I think finishing up 20 blocks is good! I have about a quarter of the blocks finished. I'll work some more tomorrow and all next week until I am finished~ once you make the mess, you might as well keep going! :-)) LOL

Until next time~

A Free BOM~

If you are going to throw anything, please make it FQ's!! :-))
My friend Mary, found this adorable BOM~~ Bunny Hill Designs Enjoy!! :-)))

A Quilt & A Story~

My Mom made this quilt top for me in late 2007. The blocks are all done in candlewicking. She put floating borders around them (the dark green) and in the first border. I just love the colors!! Last summer I took it home with me and we marked it for hand-quilting. I'd never marked a quilt before so it was quite a learning experience! ;-) I went through a number of those wash-out marking pens! :-o I left it with her and she and her friends quilted it for me. I got it back right before Christmas and just put the last stitches in the binding the other night. Then I hand washed it in the tub to get the markings off~ whew! That is one big quilt to handwash! I did fluff it in the dryer, checking on it often and then spread it on my DD's bed to finish drying. It is all ready for my bed now! I know I'll have the best dreams tonight!!! :-)

This is a photo of the backing fabric and a closer look at the border fabric~ isn't it gorgeous?? You can click the photo for a bit larger view. ;-)

~One more shot of the blocks~ :-))
I know I am one lucky gal! And to be able to share my love of quilting with my Mom is just icing on the cake! ;-)
Until next time~
(I'm working on another binding~ )

Just a Little...

...sewing got done at my house over the holiday break. :-/ But I am determined to get 'back to it'! :-)) Everyone is back to work and school today, the house is quiet, and I have much to do!

Did you know January 8th is 'Bubble Bath Day'? :-) I experimented with some angelina fibers in these postcards, but it doesn't show up very well in photo's. Today I am going to make a few more and slowly get back into my routine.

Until next time~

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
