It is Blogger's Quilt Festival time! Check out Amy's post, and then visit blogs to be inspired! There are so many great quilts and wonderful stories.
I had a very hard time deciding which of my quilts to show you~ I love all of them! :-) Usually I say that the one I just finished is my favorite, but today I'm going to share an older favorite.
Today I was refolding some of the quilts in my cupboard and this one caught my eye. It is my DD's quilt and has a fun history. When she was in 3rd grade, my Dad found an old clunker sewing machine for her to sew with. She was at the age where she wanted to sew with me. Our neighbor had a yard sale and had one of those pre-cut poly/cotton little kits of pink gingham 9-patch blocks. DD talked her into accepting her allowance for the kit. (that's my girl! LOL) :-) and came skipping home with 'her quilt kit'. That summer she learned to piece and I let her use the iron to press her blocks. She maybe finished 6. The next summer, she pulled it out and made a few more. She did this off again/on again for a few years. When she was a freshman in HS she was horrified at her initial blocks. :-) (in the space of that time, we had moved twice, and she now had a different sewing machine as her clunker was broken in one of the moves). She set to work ripping out the most offensive blocks and sewing until she had 24 blocks that she liked. She used my little stash of gingham fabrics to make her sashings. I had a new embroidery machine, so before she would leave for school in the morning, she would choose thread colors and mark where she wanted a butterfly embroidered. She would fly into the house after school to check out her top. :-) She added all the borders and we sent it off to a longarm quilter who quilted a butterfly design. All she needed to do was the binding when we picked it up. We were visiting my parents, and my Mom would sew down a length of binding when she was outside with her cousins, and at night she would work on it herself~ she marveled at how fast she was getting her binding on! She never realized Grandma helped her so much. LOL She used this quilt on her bed for a few years, and now she is 'saving' it. It is loaded with fun memories. :-) I'm #285 at the Festival!
Thanks for stopping by and visiting!
Enjoy the festival!
