Winter Solstice... or Whoops!

Last month we did the barns. And I thought this month was
houses and trees... whoops!
It was supposed to be houses and stars! :-o

I guess I am a little behind and a little ahead! LOL
I didn't even get all the trees finished up because they are a lot of work!
Digging through scraps, pressing, cutting, sewing,  repeat!

Here is my progress~

I cut the house as one shape, and appliqued wool doors.  I liked the look better than trying to match up plaids. ;-)

Now I need to step it up for September as she thinks I will get the whole top together!? :-o
Gulp!!

;-)  LOL Time will tell.

I hope you are doing some fun sewing too!
'bye for now!

It's the Little Things~

That add up to the big things!! :-)
And I've been working on little things~

I finished the 9th installment of the I Believe in Snowmen (by Bunny Hill Designs) sew-along that we are doing on the HGTV message boards. I love how this quilt is coming together!

Next month I will have the top together and show you. Then it will be on to working on borders. :-)

And I'm getting quite a stack of hexies~

They are cut from a Happy Go Lucky charm pack I was hoarding I mean~ saving for a special project! Yup that's it! :-)

I can't show you what project ...yet. :-)

But if you'd like a peek at what little secrets I was working on, check out Clover & Violet's blog post today.
;-) Yep~ that was me!! :-) And I enjoyed every minute!!  :-)

Until next time~
Happy stitchin'!!

A Little of This and A Little of That

Since finishing my swap blocks, I've been doing a bit of this and that
and not really much of anything! :-)

I did get my August BOM block done for the HGTV message board sew along~

This year I am doing my blocks in B&W, with grey and red.
This block was called Ruins of Jericho, but when I spied
that 6 inch center, I just had to add a star. :-) LOL

I also caught hexie fever! :-o
But this time I am making bigger hex's. Instead of cutting around each one, I made my templates with a double layer of freezer paper. They press nicely to the fabric, and are firm enough to hold on to.
When I'm ready to stitch the seam allowances down, it is just a quick snip of the 4 corners and my
hex is ready. Little waste, and not trying to rotary cut and create big waste. ;-)

I think I like the larger size! ;-)

What are you working on?
Until next time~

Done is Good!!

I've gotten a little behind in my BOM's and things, so when I finished
my swoon blocks for Bea's swap, I was feeling pretty good!
Done is good! :-)

There are two blocks in every stack, so you only get to see one. ;-)
We had requests for Christmas & Halloween, patriotic to cerise!
Do you know what color that is?
LOL I had to look it up. ;-) But I also discovered, after asking at 3 quilt shops,
that not many people do! I was told anything from green to a cherry red.
Its not.

I also finished 8 other blocks, but I can't show them.
They are for a surprise! :-)

Thanks for all your comments about flying geese!  I love the look of geese, but haven't
really found one method I would do as a hands down favorite...
maybe it will be a mix of methods depending on how
many geese need to fly. ;-)

Until next time~
Happy stitchin'!!

Accurary in Quilting

I'm still here! :-)
I'm finishing up the last of my swoon blocks for beaquilter's swap. (button on sidebar) and it got me to thinking about accuracy.
To me, accuracy in sewing and cutting counts. A lot.
It makes sewing the blocks together so much easier than having to 'fudge' a bit here and there.
You already know how much I love Triangulations!
I've sung their praises many times. ;-)

But how about flying geese?
Which method do you use?  There are several~ from specialty rulers, to using squares and rectangles, to cutting triangles, and even a no waste method.
No matter which I use, I find I need to trim them up...
(and no, I don't have the newest version of Triangulations with Flying Geese, mine is one of the first versions that came out.) ;-)

Even if it just a few threads~ it makes a difference in piecing your block.
So I'm curious~ have you discovered a great way to do flying geese?
Do you trim block components as you go? Am I being too OCD? :-)  LOL

Until next time~
Happy stitching!!

Swooning~~~

I've been busy making swoon blocks for Bea's swap (see right side button). ;-)
It is especially fun to know we have swappers from the UK and Australia! I love to see fabrics
from different parts of the country~ and world! :-)

I finished these two blocks last week, along with a few more.

Today I was working on a bunch of HST's for the next bunch of blocks.
I love to use Triangulations whenever making HST's because of the accuracy~ and no little trimming of small bits off of the sides~ they come out perfect every time!
I print them on Scribble pad pages, and cut them down to however many I need for each block.
This time there was no waste~ as the smaller parts were used for another part of the block. :-)

I don't mind pulling off the papers in the evening while watching TV~
it makes me feel like I've really accomplished something. LOL
And once I have all the little parts for the blocks assembled, assembly line fashion~ the blocks go together really fast!

Thanks for stopping by~
I hope you are having some fun sewing too! :-)

Winter Solstice~~

I am sewing along with Paulette and other bloggers, making
the Winter Solstice quilt from 'Life in the Country' by Country Threads.

Our first 'assignment' was to do the 2 barns.....

I am going to do mine in a combination of cottons, homespuns, and wool~
all of which are in my stash! :-) A totally stash quilt... I love it!!

To see everyone else's blocks, go to Sweet P's blog and take a mug of your favorite morning drink along, because you will be there a while! ;-)

Until next time~
Happy stitchin'!

B-r-r-r-r

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
