Quiltathon Weekend...

Do good intentions count??? :-)))

Just look what I had to deal with!~ gorgeous weather!
Aren't the trees pretty? Of course, I had to go for a few long walks! ;-)
And then I managed to settle down and sew for a bit. I got my BOM ready for next month, and I made these 2 pillowcases for my DD and her roommate. Then I pulled out my strings for string blocks and proceeded to make a mess. No I am not showing you that! :-)) But maybe I'll have a little peek of what I am working on tomorrow. Until then,
Happy Stitchin'!

Did You Guess My Quilt?

I wouldn't leave y'all without telling. Honest! :-) Did you guess which one I made? (click on it for a bit larger view) I didn't follow a pattern. I printed off the EQ6 Drunkards Path block in 3 sizes and made fabric by cutting the 6 inch squares into 1.5 inch strips and sewing them back together. Then I just traced around the templates with chalk, ~cut, sewed, played! :-) It was fun! After I got it together, the really light spots bothered me. So I pulled out a fabric stamp and a little fabric paint and added a few dragonflies to tone down the white spots. It was fun to play with something a little out of my comfort zone.
Thanks Myra! I had no idea there were books written with this kind of design. Check out this one and this one by Louisa L. Smith. wow! :-) I'm going to look for them next time I'm at the library or the quilt shop!

BTW~ tomorrow is a Quiltathon day. I'm going to be sewing! (I hope) Weekends always seem to fill up with so much other stuff, that I never get near my machine. I'll let you know how tomorrow turns out. ;-)

Have a good night!

Challenge Quilt...

A while back I told you I was working on something, but couldn't show you... remember? :-) Well, I was participating in a challenge on the HGTV message board. The quilts are now all made and the games are finished. We are waiting for the 'big reveal' this weekend, when we find out who made each quilt. In the meantime~ take a look at all these quilts! ~Challenge Quilts~ We were given 50- 6 inch squares in a wild assortment... and I mean wild! There is a photo of those too. Everything from peas in a pod to neon guitars! We were able to add a few pairs of squares and a some were granted a FQ or two~ all part of the games. Last night we found out that Tom Russell was a Mystery Quilter and participated in the challenge too. His quilt is fabulous! You are in for a real treat! I'm not going to tell you which one I made...yet. Enjoy the show!~

Have a Happy Day!~

Still juggling...

...different little projects. :-) I love having more than one thing going at once~ you don't get bored! LOL :-)) I am making these Ocean Wave blocks with a friend. We chose an autumn theme and are each making blocks, one for ourselves and one for the other. We saw the idea in the spring issue of 'America Loves Scrap Quilts'. These blocks will not be sewn together as pictured~ I just took a photo to show my friend I am working on them... in between other things. ;-) I'm also working on string blocks, and mini 9-patches, and.. and... and... :-)) You get the idea.

Congratulations Quilter Going Banana's on winning Bingo~Bonnie's fall drawing! :-) You lucky gal! :-)

Have a great weekend y'all and

Happy Stitchin'!!

I'm ba-a-ack... :-)

Long weekends usually mean not much computer time for me. ;-) I have to share it when everyone is home. LOL But, I did get to sew a bit! :-)) And today I finished the car top! Yay! The pattern is a booklet called 'Doodle Bugs' by Annette Ornelas. It is a pretty fun little technique, and I'm sure quilting will bring this top to life. I used a mix of W-o-W and a white with a teeny blue print on it for the backgrounds. You can click the photo for a larger view, and if blogger played nice with me today~ it won't be tipped sideways. :-))

To answer your questions~

:-) Thanks for your comments and questions!! :-)

The blocks in the raggy quilt are approx 10 inches, so it measures 50 x 60 inches. A good nap/snuggle size. My DD is tall. ;-) I don't put any batting or extra layer of flannel or anything between the denim and flannel... it is plenty heavy & warm with just those 2 layers. I put in a lot of pockets, so they add to the weight and thickness too. I really like this pattern because you don't have to sew X's in the squares or anything. Each block has 2 rectangles and a square, and then you turn them differently to make the pattern... very easy. :-) And no seams to match in the blocks!

I don't go to the laundromat to wash it! :-)) ~ I made a large 'pillow case' size bag with a zipper in it, so I can wash these things in my home machine without fearing a lint disaster. I take it outside to shake out after I wash it on a 'buky' setting; a lot of lint comes off in that washing, and the birds love it for their nests. :-) Shake it out and toss it in the dryer and let the magic begin... I do check the lint trap in the dryer every 7 to 10 minutes to make sure it doesn't get too full. Usually one wash is all it needs, but if I notice I forgot to snip a seam, I'll give it another rinse in the bag and then another session in the dryer.

I was going to add a few photo's of close ups of the blocks, but didn't pull the camera out today~ sorry. :-/

Have a good night!~ And happy Stitchin'!!

A Finish...

Yay! I'm just a little behind~ this is DD's raggy denim/flannel quilt. I made one for my DS and his friend when they graduated from HS. And then I continued to make them for guy HS graduates that we knew. Well when DD was getting ready to graduate this year, I asked what she'd like and she said, 'aren't you making me a denim quilt? I've been saving my old jeans...' I really didn't think she'd want one. :-) She had enough jeans saved for hers and one for her best friend! I made the friend's in time for graduation, but DD was always around and I didn't want her to see the flannels I purchased for hers. So I finally finished it and she got it this past weekend. :-) The pattern is from an old magazine that is now out of business, but it was designed by Evelyn Sloppy... I just love this pattern! :-) *click the pics to make them larger...
Until next time~~ Happy Stitchin'!!

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
