Friday!

Happy Friday!
This is my DD's quilt (well, half of it, it's laid across my bed). ;-) She started it when she was 9 years old. The pink/white 9 patch blocks are from a pre-cut kit that she spotted at a neighbor's yard sale and talked the lady down to the amount of change she had with her (that's my girl!) ;-) She got an old clunker of a sewing machine that summer from my Dad (he found it on a yard sale). It made a very nice straight stitch and she went to work making shorts for herself. I guess she thought she graduated from shorts when she spied the kit! LOL :-)) She started sewing her 9 patch blocks, lost interest, pulled them out again the next summer and on and on until she was 14 and decided she had plenty of blocks. By then she was much more discerning in her piecing and took some out and re-did them and chose the best of the bunch for her quilt. Then she got into my small gingham stash. :-) She made the borders and pieced the entire top by herself. I had an embroidery machine that had a butterfly motif so she would tell me where she wanted the butterfly and her thread choices and would head off to school. When she came home she bee-lined up to see her quilt. :-) Once she had all the butterflies she wanted, we sent it off to our longarm quilter. We picked it up that summer and she went to work piecing and attaching her binding. She had her 15th birthday. Then she stalled~ hand sewing binding wasn't in her plan. LOL :-) My Mom came to her rescue and put in all but about a foot of stitches~ LOL when she picked it up again she just had a foot of binding to stitch down! :-)) She used it for a few years and now she keeps it at the foot of her bed. Lots of memories in this quilt as most of the gingham came from clothing scraps I made for her when she was smaller. ;-) The backing is pieced with both larger gingham scraps and butterfly fabric she found in my stash.

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
