This & That

Sometimes I just can't think of a subject line. :-) LOL

I have been busy putting the finishing touches on the doll clothes I made this fall for an American Girl doll~

The purple jacket is crushed velvet. There are black Mary Janes shining at the bottom of the jacket.

I added shoes and snaps, and included a few fun things along with the outfits.

I must say, while I didn't expect to enjoy the sewing, I did!  Now I am thinking maybe I can machine embroider some tops or bodices. ;-)

Until next time~

Happy Stitchin'!

Virual Cookie Exchange Day Three

 Hello!

And welcome to the third day of the Virtual Cookie Exchange Blog Hop!  A big thank you to Carol for organizing all the fun for us!  I think this is one of my favorite hops!

I am not going to share a cookie or cookie recipe with you but I did use my gingerbread man cookie cutter~  to make ornaments!  :-)  I used to make these many years ago when my kids were small and I have to tell you, the house smells so wonderful after you dry a batch!

This is what I did. Gather some simple ingredients~

You will need approx ¾ cup of applesauce ( any applesauce works, you don't eat the ornaments so go as inexpensively as you like! I had this on my shelf for my DGD, so just used some of it.)
Approx 4 ounces of ground cinnamon (it is hard to measure cinnamon but I think it would also be about ¾ to 1 cup)  Again~ go to the dollar store or get the least pricey one you find.  My little jar was exactly 4 oz and worked perfectly.

And 2 Tablespoons of glue (any glue that dries clear would work, it just helps hold the ornaments together better. I like Elmer's.)

Mix the 3 ingredients and knead until you have a smooth dough. (I wore rubber gloves, but you don't need to, it is not a sticky dough.) You might have to add a bit more applesauce, I didn't but I guess it would depend on how much cinnamon you used.

I rolled my dough out between two pieces of parchment paper to about a generous ¼" thickness.  Don't go too thin as they will break easier.
I used a round toothpick to poke a hole for the twine. I wish I had made the holes a little bigger by working the toothpick in the hole a bit. I found it hard to get my twine through even though I dipped the end in clear fingernail polish to stiffen it.

Place your ornaments on a cookie sheet lined with parchment and dry in a 200ºF oven for approx 2 hours. I flipped them at the 1 hour mark, and then just turned the oven off at 2 hrs and let them cool.

I got a dozen ornaments from a batch. I made 2 batches. ;-) The house smelled so good! And I still can smell them if I pass by the tray. :-)

After they were dry and cool, I used a nail file to smooth any rough edges. Then you can decorate as desired. :-) I used some Tulip paints I had on hand, and only did a few because my DGD told me to save some for her to decorate. :-)  LOL  Actually, I think totally undecorated is a cute way to go too.

The cute little snack mat is from Designs By Juju.  I really need to make a few more. ;-)
Please be sure to visit my fellow bloggers today~

Thanks for stopping by! If you make any ornaments I would love to hear from you!

Not the Mean One Today!

I love the Grinch! How can you not love that smile?! LOL

And today he is eyeing something wonderful!!

I made up a batch of  'Wonder Cream' this AM. I call it that because it really does work wonders on winter dry skin!

You can find my 'recipe HERE'.

I can't believe I have been making this for so many years! But every year, I need more. My DD loves it too and always returns her containers for more. LOL

Over the years I have played with the basic ingredients, using different 'smells' of baby lotion and petroleum jelly... the almond is nice if you can find it. I like the unscented baby lotions and white.  Next batch I hope to try the lavender~ they didn't have any this time.  I guess it is a popular scent~?

If you try it, please come back and let me know.

You can also make a half batch. ;-)

And don't forget to visit the bloggers in today's Virtual Cookie Exchange! (you can find the list in my previous post.)

Tomorrow is my day and I am putting the finishing touches on my project today~ just call me Last-Minute-Lucy! :-)

Until tomorrow~

Have a great day!!!

Quilt Labels?

Do you label all your quilts?

table runners?

wall hangings?

I have been rather lax in that department. :-) When I finish a quilt, I am ready to move on to the next, and that often means I don't label it. I had been folding the square to make a triangle in the corner so I could sew it on when adding binding~ but that only works if you add a binding. ;-) What about those projects where you take the back and fold it around to be the binding?

I have finally hit upon a solution that works for me.

Using my ~

Crafter's Edge Crossover II and the Whimsical Hearts Die set,

I fused Heat n' Bond to the back of my fabric and cut out hearts!

                                                        Lots of hearts!

Tonight I will take my pens and personalize them, and then they will be ready to go on the back of some projects. :-)

I love it when a plan comes together! LOL

Until next time~

Go sew something!!

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
