A Bit of Sewing!

I used to sew clothes all the time~

especially when my kids were growing. It was not only economical, but I loved it!!

When I saw the Crafter's Edge Bumble Bee die I immediately thought of my DGD who sings a bee song to me and loves to watch the bees in the flowers.

I looked for a ready-to-wear top, but there was nothing I liked so...

or should I say 'sew'... ;)

I found a McCall's pattern  (M6541) and made her a little top. :-)

I really enjoyed sewing the top and making a bumble bee pocket was so fun! I was never really a fan of fusible applique, but I have changed my mind! LOL

I cut the appliques with my CE Crossover II machine after pressing some Heat & Bond Feather Lite adhesive to the back of the fabrics. For the bee's head I added a layer of fusible interfacing before the adhesive so the body wouldn't show through as much.

I appliqued the bee onto the large hexagon (also in the Bumble Bee set) with a machine straight stitch,  and did a little hand embroidery before sewing it to the pocket hexagon. (Right sides together and leaving an opening for turning.)

I guessed at placement on the top, but it I think it came out great!

And my DGD was sure happy! :-)

Tell me~

are you interested in clothing sewing, or strictly quilting?

I have more fun projects ahead!

Until next time~

Happy stitchin'!!

A cute project for an adorable DGD. My granddaughters always love having pockets on their clothes.

Not sure what was cuter - the little top or seeing the cutie pie wearing it. Adorable!! I used to make most of my own clothes and did a lot of garment sewing for my kids and even for hire. No more!! The last garment I've sewn was my oldest daughter's graduation dress in 1999. LOL I don't even like to mend things anymore.

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
