Looking For A Very Good Book?~

Photo borrowed from Solomon's Puzzle website
Do you love to read? me too! :-) I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Loris Nebbia's book 'Solomon's Puzzle' before the holidays. I have to say~ it was one of the best books I have ever read!  I plan to read it again! On her website Ms. Nebbia tells you about her writing process, and how she studied to write this book. And it shows~ it was not quickly written to sell, it was written with thought and feeling. And it makes you feel for the characters, from laughing out loud, to crying~ you go through all emotions. As I was nearing the end of it, I found myself reading slower and slower~ savoring it. It was that good!  :-)  Put it on your reading list, order it~ enjoy it!  Although this is a sponsored giveaway, I would not endorse something if I didn't like it, in this case~ I loved it! :-)

Loris's publisher was also so kind as to send me the accompanying quilt pattern to the book to giveaway to one of you.  It is a very well written pattern. And she takes the extra time to tell you why she named the chapters the way she did and the meaning of the accompanying quilt blocks. It is very nice!  And the quilt is a beauty~ :-)

I'm going to make you work just a teeny bit harder to win this wonderful pattern. I want you to go to the Solomon's Puzzle website and come back and tell me something you learned, and if you will look for this book for yourself.

I'll draw a winner on Monday.

Until then~ happy stitchin'!!

Sounds like there is a lot of tension between the MacBrides and the Hunters... but I'll wait for the audiobook to see how it turns out. The quilt looks beautiful, and has some suggestion of light shining out of darkness. Hmmm, something to do the with book, perhaps?

Well....it sounds like a great book. I am about done with the one I am reading now and may consider this one next. A liar? I wonder which one is the real one. I love books that I don't want to end.

It looks kpretty good to me. I would probably read it because I'm in Maryland. Is Solomon's Soloman's Island? that's one of our favorite places to kayak. And eat shrimp. yummmmm

This looks like a great book. I learned the origin of the block name Eight Hands Around comes from the old idea of 4 women sitting round one quilt working on it.

Loved the little thumbnail excerpts of the book that she shares. Definitely makes me eager to read the whole book.

Is it Tom McBride or Max Hunter who is the bad guy? And how does the quilt work into this story? You've piqued my interest! I love reading and I love quilting. Thanks for the good book tip and for the drawing.

Happy reading and sewing to you!

This is definately a book I will look for and read. I went on to read the story about the woman who worked at Lord & Taylor in alterations. She had been reading the book, not wanting to put it down. A woman came in for alterations, she took her name, and that night, realized it was the author of the book! A really neat story..Thanks for the chance to win this lovely pattern..

I would read it just to find out what the connection between the blocks and the chapters is. I will add it to my reading list, but as I only read used books (probably not so good for the authors revenues, but good for my bank account) I will probably have to wait a while ... but then patience is something you have to have making quilts ...
you asked weather we learned anything on the page - well I would say I once again found out taht you shouldn't try to guess what a book is about by the title - I was guessing something about philosophy ... but then all books are a bit philosophical in the end.

I love how you described reading this book - taking your time and savoring each word at the end. The book description is intriguing.

Not too many hints aobut how a quilt fits into a book with navy officers as the main charcters. This sounds like my kind of book and I am headed to Amazon right now!

Sounds like a good book, but not available on my ereader website. Wonder if it is just so new they do not have it yet. They did not have any by this author. :(

How exciting to find a new author that writes about real life and quilting. I'll be ordering the book.

Thanks for sharing.

I am intrigued. I wonder how the quilt relates to the story or if it's just a fun extra the author created.

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
