Saturday Sewing~

Or maybe I should say 'mindless sewing'. :-)  I decided to do Bonnie Hunter's Orca Bay mystery.  ( She has a tab at the top of her blog where you will find all the info and Step 1).  When the first step turned out to be 224 QST's I did pause for a minute! LOL  But she says we are getting the worst over first, so away I went.

I don't collect 1.5 inch strips, and don't have a stash of those. Actually I don't have much of a stash of black fabrics at all~ I used them up in my last B&W quilt.  So rather than cut my remaining pieces down to 1.5 inch strips, I printed out sheets of Triangulations papers and cut rectangles.  I know a lot of quilters don't like having to remove the papers, but it is the easiest and most accurate for me. I love not having to do any squaring up when the units are 2.5 inches or less. ;-)

Today I sewed ten sheets~ which will be 120 QST's when I sew the halves together. It went really fast, and I can pull the papers when I'm sitting in my easy chair tonight. :-)  At this rate, this step is going to be done before I know it! :-)

Have a happy weekend~
And until next time~

Happy Stitchin'!!

Super way to do that many HSTs! I like to work tiny - but I am passing on this mystery for now. It will be available for a few months so maybe later. But, again, this is really the way to go with that many quarter squares - good for you.

You can do it even faster without the paper by ironing freezer paper to the right side of your light colored fabirc, and running it through the printer. Then all the lines are printed right on the fabric to sew on and NO paper removal is needed, because you pull off the freezer paper and use it for the next sheet. I did this with her last mystery and I got the 600 HST's done in no time flat. Sure you don't get the scrappy look with them all being different fabrics, but I don't have the different fabrics in the first place.

What a great idea, I'm gonna remember that one! I do like the Triangulations cd, I bought mine on sale in August, and have put it right to work ~

nice way to do those triangles. I'm going to enjoy watching everyone do the mystery.

I don't know.... I am thinking that is cheating!! lol!! The freezer paper idea sounds like an interesting one though......
Still think you should do them one at a time and get to know them individually, and make them your friend ;-)
No, I have not started it yet, but I will. Soon. Next week for sure!!

woo hoo Sandie! so glad you're doing Bonnie's mystery. I am getting started very very soon, and like you I don't have much in the way of black fabric so I'll have to go hunting through the stash

I should have thought to do it that way! I haven't got all mind cut, so maybe I will do some that way..anything to move along my progress!

I'm downloading the parts but not starting the mystery...too much going on right now. But I like your triangulations idea! No trimming sounds perfect to me :)

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
