I learned to crochet from my grandmother when I was in elementary school. She was an avid crocheter of afghans. She would save the little bits and bobs of leftover yarn for me. I know I made a smaller throw before this one, but I have no idea what happened to it. I also made the most outrageously colorful poncho. LOL I loved wearing it to school. I don't think I even have photo's of it, but it was loud. Then I started making granny squares. I think I was in 8th grade when I put this afghan together. It has held up very well over the years. And it is heavy! DH and I both grab for it in the evenings when watching TV, so I decided we needed another. ;-)

Well, Kim started making a granny striped blanket and gave Lucy's link. LOL I loved what they were doing, but the timing was wrong for me to start anything... until this past weekend. Then JoAnn's happened to have a pretty good yarn sale and now I'm happily hooking along! ;-)

Have a good weekend!

I haven't crocheted in years! I love what you've got started, the yarn and the pattern are wonderful!
Looks great so far! Isn't it awesome how relaxing crocheting can be?
That's looking really pretty! I like the idea of the stripes instead of having to join all the squares together. Thanks for sharing the links.
I haven't crocheted much except hats for the homeless lately - I want one of those old fashioned granny square afghans in the thinner thread with black around the outer edges of the blocks - so nostaglic.
looks very nice. I went through a crochet stage a while ago and made many afghans
Just a fellow-hooker here - hooking it up in crime....LOL
And now, after years of hooking, DD hooks even better than Mom...LOL
Yeap, we're a family of hookers....ROFLOL
Your granny square afghan is beautiful. I am going to have to check out what you are doing now. I love to knit and crochet. Right now I am helping our church do prayer shawls. Then our daughter-in-law wants some fingerless gloves and then I may try this blanket when I get settled in for the cold months.
Love,
Marie
What a wonderful memory you must have of crocheting with your Gram...
